Pasconian Meme

I don't usually participate in this kind of thing -- mostly because, holy shit it takes a long time to think about all this stuff -- but after many a time of "tagging me," my good friend Chad Hermann gets his wish.

Mostly.

I already sat on this list of things for way too long, so I decided that anything I was having trouble with, I just kicked out. Kinda like when I was the prime minister of Iraq and I didn't like the way a man was treating his camel -- OUT OF MY COUNTRY!

And so. Insprired by the Barmaid (and you all know, bars and maids -- I'm a big fan of both), here's the partial list. Still a lot to read while slacking off at work. Go to it.

THREE FAVORITE QUOTATIONS
1. "I suppose the heroic in life or art is based on the consciousness that life is a struggle and that in this struggle it is courage, strength of will, and determination which are decisive, not intelligence or sensibility. The heroic involves the contempt of convenience and a sacrifice of all those pleasures which we may call a civilized life. It is the enemy of happiness, but we recognize that it is man's greatest achievement." -- Kenneth Clark
2. "We live inside an enormous novel ... The fiction is already there. The writer's task is to invent the reality." -- J.G. Ballard
3. "Act like a star and be treated like a star." --David Bowie (paraphrased)

THREE PEOPLE WHO MAKE ME LAUGH
1. Mike George.
2. Mitch Hedberg.
3. Ricky Gervais.

THREE GUILTY PLEASURES
1. Sitting in a chair and doing nothing but listening to a record on a turntable.
2. Smoking a cigar.
3. Painting.

THREE THINGS I HATERADE
1. The inconsistency of "do's and don'ts."
2. Lids on coffee cups -- I'd rather not drink coffee than drink it through a plastic hole.
3. People with closed minds.

THREE THINGS I DON'T UNDERSTAND
1. Sheep.
2. Fundamentalism.
3. People who don't like music.

THREE THINGS ON MY DESK
1. A Wacom tablet -- I would be happy never to use a mouse again.
2. A green-ink Gelly Roll pen by Sakura/Japan.
3. Paper.

THREE THINGS I'D LIKE TO LEARN
1. Japanese.
2. How to fly a plane.
3. How to build a watch.

THREE JOBS I'D LOVE TO TRY
1. Gravedigger -- although I hear it's all automated now with machines and stuff. Give me a shovel and a patch of dirt, even though I probably wouldn't make it through the day.
2. Haberdasher.
3. Architect.

THREE FAVORITE FOODS
1. Toro.
2. Lamb Korma.
3. Panang Curry.

THREE COMFORT FOODS
1. Little Fat Sheet Soup.
2. Hop Woo's House Supreme Soup.
3. Popcorn.

THREE ALBUMS I'M ALWAYS IN THE MOOD FOR
1. Pink Floyd - Relics.
2. Mono - One Step More and You Die.
3. Crime + The City Solution - Paradise Discotheque.

THREE ALBUMS I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW
1. Current 93 - Black Ships Ate the Sky.
2. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
3. Leafcutter John - The Forest And The Sea.

THREE MOVIES NO ONE HAS SEEN BUT EVERYONE SHOULD SEE
1. The Great Yokai War.
2. Akira Kurasawa's Dreams.
3. The Falls.

THREE ONSCREEN MOMENTS THAT MAKE ME FEEL BETTER
1. "Silencio" in Mulholland Drive.
2. The last ten minutes of Prince of Darkness -- perhaps not a perfect film, but a perfect ending if there ever was one.
3. The moment in almost every Takashi Miike film in which the action transcends all possibility and enters the realm of pure exhilaration.

THREE PEOPLE WHO MAKE ME FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING WILL TURN OUT OK IN THE END
1. My daughter.
2. My wife.
3. My mom.
