I couldn't resist to urge to jump out of (splendid) isolation long enough to post on Halloween. So here are some brief bits and bites to fill your candy sack.
- Happy birthday to creepy cartoonist extraordinaire Batton Lash. - I had the immense pleasure of seeing the new Asian film anthology The Three Extremes last weekend at a special advance screening. It has stayed with me long after I left the theater. Specifically, and not surprisingly, the pure terror in torture of Chan Park Wook's "Cut" (forget Saw II, this is the real deal) and the sublime beauty of Takashi Miike's "Box." Do yourself a favor this season and seek this one out -- if not at the theaters, at a bootleg videostore near you. - I'm going to watch the special edition DVD of Mr. Cronenberg's The Fly tonight with friends and loved ones. And I'm incredibly excited because my wife has never seen it. Ah, the thrill of seeing Cronenberg's monster masterpiece for the first time again. I've already had a sneak peak at the new DVD's motion menus and, well, they're brilliant. Friday, October 14, 2005The Future is Coming
Sorry for the long radio silence. I've been working on a short story for the upcoming crime anthology: L.A. Noir.
Once I put that guy to bed, I'll be back. Seriously. In the meantime, if you live near the John Wayne Airport (or are willing to travel to Orange County), you can catch my appearnce at the Men of Mystery conference on Saturday, 11/5/05. I'll be joining more than 60 mystery authors, including William Bernhardt and Dean Koontz. Of all the speaking events I do, this is one of my very favorites. For registration info, please call James Day at 949-770-8673 and for all other questions call Joan Hansen at 714-892-3995. Hopefully I'll post something new before then!
