I couldn't resist to urge to jump out of (splendid) isolation long enough to post on Halloween. So here are some brief bits and bites to fill your candy sack.
- Happy birthday to creepy cartoonist extraordinaire Batton Lash. - I had the immense pleasure of seeing the new Asian film anthology The Three Extremes last weekend at a special advance screening. It has stayed with me long after I left the theater. Specifically, and not surprisingly, the pure terror in torture of Chan Park Wook's "Cut" (forget Saw II, this is the real deal) and the sublime beauty of Takashi Miike's "Box." Do yourself a favor this season and seek this one out -- if not at the theaters, at a bootleg videostore near you. - I'm going to watch the special edition DVD of Mr. Cronenberg's The Fly tonight with friends and loved ones. And I'm incredibly excited because my wife has never seen it. Ah, the thrill of seeing Cronenberg's monster masterpiece for the first time again. I've already had a sneak peak at the new DVD's motion menus and, well, they're brilliant.
