Good News/Bad News

Well, last week had a couple high points, but the highest was when the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announnced its 2004 Advanced Media Technology Emmy Awards. JETIX, the interactive TV show that I was head writer/producer on, was nominated for another THREE Emmys! The ceremony is November 15 in NYC. Keep your fingers crossed and hope that I can take home at least one statuette. The Emmy Academy press release can be found here.

The bad news is I was in an auto accident Saturday night. I was not drinking and no one was hurt. Really it was just a fender bender, but today's cars don't have fenders that bend, they have fenders that implode and shatter upon impact. Nice.

I've been in way too many crashes. And I feel that car crashes involve a certain violation -- no matter who's at fault. I really feel the need to get away, to crawl defensively back into my hole. But this week, my hole will probably just be the UglyTown office. At least it's a nice hole.

DJ Shadow/Radiohead remix -- TERROR

Oh my god. I heard this song on the radio last night and immediately had to find it. It begins with President [sic] Bush saying "terror" over and over again, cut'n'paste style. It turns out that the song is a Radiohead remix by hotshot turntablist DJ Shadow. It also turns out that the original plans to release this song on a limited-edition vinyl pressing were scrapped by Radiohead's label because of "clearance issues" with W. Therefore I feel totally compelled and justified to share it with you now.

Print Work Still Looms Large

It's hard to believe that UglyTown has so many books in play right now. The Distance is rolling off press, Queer Street is now in prep, and I'm trying to finish the final touches on Kill Whitey. If these titles are new to you, now's a good time to check out the UglyTown site for more info.

And for those long-time UglyTown sufferers ... yes, we will be updated the site more often ... soon.

Hours? Houses?

You people read too much. You also clearly sleep more than I do.

Out of one fire and into another: I'm fighting a tight print schedule for the next TWO UglyTown books, as we race to get these books available for the holiday season. It's going to be a long night, which basically reminds me that I need to put some Ween on.

Oh, and a special shout out to the party people in Toronto at the big mystery writers convention called Bouchercon. I'm sad not to be there -- my first time-out since the start of UglyTown.
