Wednesday, August 11, 2004A Moog Evening
This past Saturday I took a much-needed break from non-stop UglyTown production design mixed with wedding planning. Gab and I went over to our friend Alex's pad. After we'd all done much munching and drinking, Alex leads me into his new music studio he's constructing in his garage. He stuffed his old upright piano in here, in addition to the two computers, four flat screens, and complete ProTools set-up. But the thing that really caught my eye was the small keyboard encased in warm wood.
A Minimoog Voyager. I've long been a fan of the Moog -- the original analog synthesizer, but I really never thought I'd play one. It was fantastic. It even had a Touch Surface Controller that allows you to alter the soundwaves with the wave of your fingers, sorta like a Theremin. Alex started to lay down some beats with the computer and then moved over to the piano while I played away. All in all, a great stress-free night. Less than two weeks to go!
